Dan Cojocaru...

...was born on June 17, 1937 in Fetesti, Ialomita - his story ended on October 06, 2009 in Bucharest)

 

He graduated from the National University of the Theatre Arts and Cinematography Ion L. Caragiale, Bucharest, Romania in 1964 in the class of professor Jules Cazaban, lecturer Victor Moldovan and assistant Cornel Todea.  He used his role of Petru Arjoca in M. Davidoglu's "Cetatea de Foc" as his Baccalaureate Thesis.

 

He was assigned to the National Theatre in Timisoara, where he enacted the following roles from 1964 to 1966:

  •      Bourar - Euripide's "Ifigenia in Taurida"
  •      Cocorandu - Lucian Blaga's "Antonn Pann"
  •      Prezentorul (The Presenter) - Al. Popovici's "Nu Prea Alba ca Zapada"
  •      Pescarul (The Fisherman) - Horia Lovinescu's "Febre"
  •      Chelnerul (The Waiter) - Paul Everac's "Simple Coincidente"
  •      Esdras - M. Anderson's "Pogoara Iarna"
  •      Vanc Sacagiul - B. Brecht's "Omul cel Bun din Saciuan"
  •      Caminarul Palciu - V. Alecsandri's "Piatra din Casa"

He worked as:

  • Artistic Director of the Students' House of Culture in Bucharest from 1966 to 1967.
  • Artistic Director of the University Center of Bucharest from 1967 to 1969.
  • Artistic Director of the TVR from 1969 to 1994.
  • Artistic Director of Tele 7 ABC from 1994 to 1999.
  • Artistic Director of Trinitas TV from 2000 to 2009.
  • Professor at the Academy of Television.

 

He was a member of the following societies:

  •          Romanian Writers' Union  
  •          Romanian Association of Humorists  
  •          International Association of Humorists, Gabrovo, Bulgaria

 

He won four national awards "A.U.R." (gold) as a playwright.

First prize at the National Contest of Dramaturgy, 1995

Author of multiple plays being staged or in production at various theaters in the nation, including the National Theater in Bucharest (production 2000).

Master Dan Cojocaru is listed in the Encyclopedia of Romanian personalities, "Who's Who", 2002 edition.

Debuted as a writer in 1985: "Hydro-Tele-Bicycle" - short stories, 1985

Debuted as a playwright in 1999: "A Day in the Life of Robinsoe Crusoe" - Winner of the 1995 National Contest of Dramaturgy

 

Author of the column "Haz de Necaz" (Making Fun of Troubles) published in the Romanian international paper "Romanian Journal" in the United States, 1995 - 2009 (Edited by Elias Wexler)

Author of the humoristic column of the international paper, "Lumea Libera" in the United States, 1994 - 1996 (initiated by Dan Costescu and sustained by Master Timothy Ursu, Director of the masterworks "September" and "The Fourth Flock".
